Summer Camps 2012 "Beginner" and "Multi Level"
Our Summer Camps are designed for students that are at least 10 years old and have never been in a Kayak before or have very little experience. All essential equipment is provided, all you need to bring with you is a smile and the expectation that you are going to have a good time. Each Camp runs for three days and meets for three hours each day. All Camps are held at the Rochester Canoe and Kayak Park.
The First Day Starts on flat water. The Student will learn all required safety procedures first. Including wet exits, assisted and unassisted rescues and more. Once the Safety procedures are mastered we will start the process of learning how to use a paddle to make our Kayaks move thru the water. Reverse and Forward sweeps, Reverse and Forward strokes, are some of the techniques that will be covered.
The Second Day of this class is done on moving water. This gives the student a chance to practice their safety training while learning how to use the skills they learned on Day 1 to enjoy the many positive aspects of White Water Kayaking. Eddy turns, peel outs, ferries are only a few of the procedures you will be learning. Rewards in this sport include growth in self-esteem, teamwork, self discipline, goal setting and more.
The Third Day we will be looking at and practising more advanced methods of controling your Kayak in White water. We will cover the roll and review quickly what we learned the first two days. This is the day that the entire course is explored. We finish with a fun race using some of the gates that are part of the Olympic Training Center main course.
The Multi Level Skill Development Camps are for students that have successfully completed the Beginner Level Camp and wish to continue to develope their skills.
